De paperbacks zijn wat betreft inhoud hetzelfde, alleen zouden de afmetingen van de boeken misschien kunnen verschillen. Voor zover wij kunnen vinden is de eerste paperback (isbn 9781471116612) de meest gangbare versie en deze wordt ook vermeld op de website van de Britse uitgever Simon & Schuster.
De hardcover versie heeft in principe dezelfde inhoud als de paperbacks, maar de buitenkant van het boek is net een tikkeltje mooier door het metallic/glanzende omslag. De inhoud van het boek is gelijk, met uitzondering van de eerste druk van het boek. De eerste druk is namelijk een soort limited edition, en deze bevat een extra kort verhaal (Cassandra heeft zelfs al verklapt dat het een kort verhaal is dat gaat over de personages van The Mortal Instruments). Deze limited edition heeft dezelfde ISBN als de bovenvermelde hardcover (ISBN: 9781442468351), maar alleen de eerste druk van deze hardcover heeft dit extra verhaal. Dus wil je de eerste druk hebben, dan kun je hem het beste pre-orderen / reserveren.
